Support Denniston Hill's 2021 Programs
Denniston Hill is undertaking a radical realignment of the scope and impact of its public programs.
Your gift enables DH to move forward, sustaining and promoting the development of a radical imagination, the key to charting a path from extinction to reclaiming a decolonized world.
One of the new projects you can help support is PUBLIC UTILITY 2.0
PUBLIC UTILITY 2.0
It seems unimaginable that despite decades of federal and state government promises, large parts of the rural and urban United States remain without access to reliable, high-speed Internet access or beholden to incumbent providers. The digital divide keeps our neighbors locked out of opportunities and even essential services.
To address this, Denniston Hill is partnering with conceptual artist Mary Ellen Carroll to utilize radio frequency/spectrum as a 21st century form of land art that looks to the airwaves as the space of transformation.
Denniston Hill will become a pilot site and a model for a rural Wireless Internet Service Provider (WISP) that brings equitable Internet access to the surrounding community in Sullivan County through unused radio frequencies. Utilizing the unlicensed spectrum for the Citizens Broadband Radio Service (CBRS) for wireless connectivity and additionally with Super WiFi (TV Whitespace), PUBLIC UTILITY 2.0 will enable Denniston Hill and the local community to develop and participate in ongoing cultural programming, virtual learning, tele-health, job development and more.
